INCENTIVES

Middle Michigan Development Corporation has a staff that is ready and able to assist companies with location, expansion, or retention projects in the Central Michigan Region. MMDC staff is well versed in the incentives available to new or expanding companies.  Please contact Middle Michigan Development Corporation for additional information.

  • Tax Abatement – MMDC staff will assist with the application process for tax abatement on real and personal property for manufacturing and technology businesses.
     
  • Tax Free Renaissance Zones – these zones are state tax free
    until 2013.
     
  • SmartZone – The Center for Applied Research and Technology at Central Michigan University is one of the state’s 11 SmartZones designed to stimulate the growth of technology businesses and jobs.
     
  • Training Assistance – funds are available for training or retraining company employees through several sources.
     
  • Mid Michigan Area Placement Council (MMAPC) – is a group
    of placement specialists working together to grow the workforce in the Central Michigan Region. Through job fairs, job shadowing, mentoring, mock interviews and networking this group works to enhance and match skill sets between the region’s employers and potential employees.
     
  • Community Development Block Grants – MMDC has written over $11.7 M in CDBG grants for improvement of infrastructure in the Central Michigan Region.
     
  • Industrial Development Revenue Bonds – MMDC provides assistance in accessing for public projects in the community.
     
  • Brownfield tax credits – available to businesses willing to participate in the redevelopment of contaminated, blighted or obsolete sites.
     
  • Job Creation Tax Credits – available through the MEGA
    program to qualifying companies.
     
  • Tax Increment Financing Authority (TIFA) – these captured
    tax dollars are used within the TIF district (industrial parks and downtowns) to maintain the district and to improve infrastructure.
