Educational Institutions in Clare County | School District Map

As Michigan's "Gateway to the North," rural Clare County offers beautiful natural surroundings and is a paradise for those who enjoy the outdoors. While the natural resources are visually stunning, the longstanding tradition and spirit of collaboration and community involvement are actually the hidden gems of Clare County.

The K-12 schools offer quality academic programs taught by highly qualified teachers under the leadership of capable administration. After-school and summer school programs are offered in each district, and all 11th and 12th grade students are eligible to attend the Career and Technical Education programs offered by Clare-Gladwin Regional Education Service District in collaboration with Mid Michigan Community College. The Clare-Gladwin Middle College and other innovative dual enrollment programs offer opportunities for students to graduate from high school with college credits already earned.

Mid Michigan Community College (MMCC) has a campus both in Harrison (Clare County) and Mt. Pleasant (Isabella County) offering Academic Programs, Professional Development Programs, and a Personal Interest Series. All courses are for the recent high school graduates, in addition to students going back to school later in life.

Michigan Technical Education Center (M-Tec) operates through MMCC and is a real benefit to the Middle Michigan Region business community. The focus of training in the M-TEC center is the industrial and construction trades. Industrial training components include pneumatics, hydraulics, instrumentation, electrical controls, and plumbing and pipe fitting. In the construction trades, training is provided in carpentry, electrical, masonry, and plumbing. Industrial delivery is skill-based, open-entry / open exit, individualized, and self-paced. A key to the instructional delivery in the M-TEC is providing learners with a variety of instructional delivery systems. Units of instruction are developed that cover the skills specifically identified by business and industry as critical.

Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center Region 4 Office is affiliated with MMCC and provides services and support to the Michigan small business community in the areas of counseling, training and research.

MIDDLE MICHIGAN REGION
Clare County and Isabella County

Quality of Life Clare County  |  Quality of Life Isabella County | Area Map

The Middle Michigan Region is located in the geographic center of Michigan’s lower peninsula, which is surrounded by the world’s largest reserve of fresh water. The area offers a unique lifestyle boasting the warmth and safety of many small communities of distinctive character – each proud of its pristine surroundings, local festivals, specialty shops and area charm. Fortunate to experience the magnificence of all four seasons, the inhabitants of The Middle Michigan Region take pleasure in the many experiences of the great outdoors, specifically hunting, fishing, boating, and golfing. In addition, the Region also offers a broad-based environment usually found in much larger cities, namely with the attraction attributed to Central Michigan University, Mid Michigan Community College and the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort. The Region is within a 3-hour drive of every major market in Michigan and is linked to one of the largest industrial and consumer markets in the United States.

Mt. Pleasant, located in Isabella County, is the largest city in the Region. You’ll find several championship golf courses, casino gambling and wildlife exploration, all in the greater Mt. Pleasant area. What's more, there is plenty of specialty shopping and outdoor recreation. Mt. Pleasant plays host to countless cultural and theatrical events, as well as Central Michigan University NCAA Division I athletics.

Two family oriented communities near Mt. Pleasant are the Village of Shepherd and the Village of Lake Isabella.

Known as, “The sweetest little town anywhere around,” Shepherd is located just South of Mt. Pleasant and is home to the annual Maple Syrup Festival.

East of Mt. Pleasant is the picturesque Village of Lake Isabella. Lake Isabella is incorporated around a 1,100
acre all sports lake, has a championship golf course, and
a municipal airport with a half-mile airstrip.

Clare, the Region’s second largest city, is known statewide as the “Gateway to the North.” Clare is an ideal location for family living, which boasts such amenities as: bountiful hunting, fishing, and wildlife adventures, proximity to some 150 named lakes, exciting ski facilities, pleasant subdivisions, and an excellent school system.

Harrison, the Clare County seat and home to Mid Michigan Community College, supports an unlimited availability of year-round water related activities. It is also known for its outdoor activities including camping, golfing, skiing, and snowmobiling. It is truly a recreational paradise for both seasonal visitors and residents!

Farwell, located on the southern border of Clare County, was established in 1870 along the Pere Marquette Railroad line. The village still retains its small town atmosphere, is supported by small businesses and several manufacturing firms, and plays a role in local tourism due to its proximity to lakes and skiing. It is also the site of a tax-free, industrial Renaissance Zone.

The Middle Michigan Region supports first-quality medical facilities. Central Michigan Community Hospital provides a number of specialty clinics throughout the region, and is a proud partner with the University of Michigan Health System to treat cancer in Mt. Pleasant. Plus, Mid Michigan Health has specialized Medical Center facilities in both Clare and Mt. Pleasant.

The Middle Michigan Region is home to The Saginaw ChippewaSaginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan Indian Tribe, which boasts the biggest and best gaming destination in the Midwest – the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort having over 4,300 slots, plenty of table games and the highest stakes bingo in Michigan. With 514 guest rooms, the Soaring Eagle Resort is decorated in a woodland Indian motif and has over $2 million of American artwork exhibited throughout the property. In addition to its beautiful guest rooms, meeting rooms and spa, the resort features three dining rooms – Water Lily Restaurant, Firefly Buffet, and Sinii Kaung Steak and Chop House – in addition to its lounge, snack bars and cafés. Events at the Soaring Eagle Resort include top comedy, music and sports entertainment from around the world.

Across the street from the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort is The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe’s Ziibiwing Center, which was created to enlighten and educate all communities in the rich culture, heritage, and history of the Anishinabek people of the Great Lakes. Featuring the Diba Jimooyung: Telling Our Story permanent exhibit, changing exhibits, lectures, and educational workshops, the Ziibiwing Center provides learning opportunities for all ages. The Ziibiwing Center’s Mission Statement best describes its objective and significance to the greater Mt. Pleasant area.

“The Ziibiwing Center is a distinctive treasure created to provide an enriched, diversified and culturally relevant educational experience. This promotes the society’s belief that the culture, diversity and spirit of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan and other Great Lakes Anishinabek must be recognized, perpetuated, communicated and supported.”

The citizens of the Middle Michigan Region take great pride in their community and are committed to maintaining the area’s high standard of economic excellence. Unique opportunities are also afforded the community through the City of Mt. Pleasant’s sister-city relationships and exchanges with Okaya, Japan and Valdivia, Chile. With a strong business climate, a central and convenient location with quick access to nearby major markets, significant interaction with Central Michigan University and proximity to Michigan’s favorite vacationlands, the Middle Michigan Region is an ideal place to live, to work, and to “grow” a business.
